Executives Caught Red Handed

I don't know whether to focus on the hypocrisy of company executives, the virtues of a free-market economy, or the marketing genius of getting a competitor to buy your product.

This is from The Guardian in England. Apparantly some of the head honchos at Barclays went to their competitors for their personal home loans. Nice. Then they have the bravado to say their goal is to increase their market share in home loans.

Sometimes things seem to be a good idea at first blush. Better to re-think a decision than to find yourself profiled in an international media outlet!

Free Trade?
In an Associated Press article published in the Washington Post today, I was struck by a couple of things. First off, no matter what your position on it, NAFTA has people everywhere unhappy. A deal was struck yesterday between the... Continue Reading

Cities And Businesses Partner in Wi-Fi Revolution
A little warning here. Read this carefully, or you might misunderstand the point I'm making. One of the latest trends is cities floating the idea of "free" wireless internet service in their community. Well, I hope you're not naiive enough... Continue Reading

Business Liability And Lawsuits, Pt. 2
This a follow up to my last post regarding legal issues and their effect on business. I hadn't planned it this way, but I was stunned when I read this story. This article in Business Week about pharmaceutical giant Merck... Continue Reading

Corporate Responsibility Vs. Employee Responsibility
I don't think there's anyone reading this that would have much criticism of the airline industry as a whole. I don't mean waiting in excruciatingly long lines, shoe searches, and lousy food. I mean the industry itself following the attacks... Continue Reading

Damaging Consumer Trust
I came across this article on FastCompany.com. The author is Karen Post, the "Branding Diva". She makes a very good point that businesses should consider. Short-term gain, vs. long-term sustainability. Now, I know I'm an idealist. The more you follow... Continue Reading
Behind The Keyboard
I suppose a disclaimer might be appropriate, but I figure a name and a photo will suffice to know who to blame for what goes on here! Who am I, you ask. Well my name is John Palmer and I'm... Continue Reading
