Well, this is interesting...I think.
There are some who clearly think that we should take our cues from things happening in other nations outside of the US. Well, listen up. This is from an article in the International Herald Tribune/Europe.
José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, Spain's self-described "feminist" prime minister, has begun his most ambitious effort yet to guarantee equality for women in business and politics, demanding that women make up at least 40 percent of the candidates from any political party and 40 percent of the members on corporate boards.
I wonder what US business people would think about this. If it's true that there is a mass of talented people just waiting to have unfair stereotypes and "glass ceilings" removed so they can prove their prowess in the marketplace, then this just might be the answer.
If, on the other hand, this would simply hold businesses (and to a much lesser degree, politicians) hostage to an arbitrary standard and keep out talented professionals who don't fit the "model", what then?
Will companies work better? More efficiently? What if less qualified people are required to be hired, what then happens to product quality and safety? And if products are less safe, what about corporate liability?
A can of worms, si?
