I'm not sure what to make of this.
Toyota has no interest in blocking or joining the proposed partnership between General Motors and the Renault-Nissan alliance, the Japanese automaker’s president said Thursday.
My "spider sense" makes me think that the more a person denies something, the more likely it is to happen. Not scientific, I know, but...
The rumors have been circling for months.
Joining together GM, Renault and Nissan would produce a mega-alliance like no other, spanning the three big auto markets of the world — Europe, Japan and the U.S. — with a combined annual production of 15 million vehicles.
One rumor says Toyota is interested. Another says "no". In fact, it's kind of like the betting line in Las Vegas. It's set just right to maximize the amount of money bet by fans on both sides.
“We are not thinking about participating,” he (Toyota Motor Corp. President Katsuaki Watanabe) told reporters at a Tokyo hotel when asked about whether Toyota may either join or block the talks among GM, Renault and Nissan.
But, always keep your options open....and your name in the papers....and your shareholders on their toes.
I think one things is for sure. For some, mega mergers are a good thing. For most of us, power and decision-making in fewer and fewer hands is a bit troubling.
